Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's)
What does APB mean?
All Points Bulletin. When the police are searching for a missing person, they issue an All Points Bulletin, or APB, which is distributed to all precincts and officers in a wide area. These officers then may encounter the missing person during their regular duties.
We've borrowed this term because LostPetsAPB.com does exactly the same thing, sending an email bulletin to all members in a wide area. These members then may encounter the lost pet while going about their regular business. In addition, we have many members who will actively search for your lost pet.
Why is the APB sent over such a large area? I doubt my pet will go that far.
It is very important to understand that APB's are not designed so much to track the movement of your pet, as to track the movement of people who may come in contact with your pet. If you've ever seen what appeared to be a lost pet you were likely in your car at the time. Our APB's are sent over a large area in order to reach all members who have a chance of encountering your pet in their travels.
Is the cost of the APB per community?
No. Your APB will be sent to all communities (towns or subdivisions) within your broadcast area for one low fee, regardless of how many communities or members are reached.
What else can you do to help me find my pet?
Not only do we immediately notify other members in your area that your pet is missing, but we also automatically generate a lost pet poster for you (professionally designed to maximize visibility), register your pet in our Lost Pet Database which is freely searchable by all members, including the SPCA/Humane Society, and provide you with a free copy of our Pet Recovery Guide. We'll also send you encouragement emails throughout your recovery process.
How long should I look for my pet before I give up?
We keep lost pets in our Lost Pet Database for 4 months. While pets have been recovered after being missing for longer than this, it is very rare. While the odds of recovery do go down after the first week we have had many members successfully recover lost pets after weeks or even months.
After I've sent an APB, what should I do then?
After you have issued an APB, you'll be able to access our 12 page Pet Recovery Guide. A copy will have been emailed to you as soon as you issued your APB. Also, you can access the Pet Recovery Guide at any time by logging in to your member profile. This document details, step by step, the actions you need to take to maximize your pet's chances of coming home safely and is organized by type of pet and broken down into time periods (i.e. 'The first 24 hours', 'The first 3 days', etc.)
If I follow your Pet Recovery Guide, what are my pet's chances of coming home safely?
Members who issue APB's and carefully follow the steps in our Pet Recovery Guide will safely recover their pet 86% of the time. LostPetsAPB.com is proud to have the highest recovery rate of any pet recovery service or website anywhere! Simply stated, our program represents your pet's best chances of coming home safely.
Once I find my pet, how do I let other members know?
You can issue a Pet Found notice from within your member profile with one click of your mouse. This will immediately alert other members that your pet is home safe. Please be sure to do this, as some members will actively search for your lost pet. Please be respectful of their time and concern and notify other members immediately when your pet comes home safely.
